Luce-Lynn Fondling has always been a fighter. But now he is fighting for a better world.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa and LOS ANGELES, Calif., March 1, 2023 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Growing up in Mitchel Plain was not easy, according to Luce-Lynn Fondling, life skills coach and Minister for Volunteer Scientology who works with community leaders, educators and practitioners bullying and victims in schools. Drug dealers dominate his neighborhood. “There is violence everywhere,” he said.
Mitchel Plain was built in the 1970s for people who were forcibly removed by South Africa’s apartheid government from an area designated for “whites only”. It is notorious for gang violence, substance abuse and poverty.
“I have always struggled,” he said in a video on the Volunteer Ministers South Africa YouTube channel. “I’m always fighting. I was always, ‘You can’t tell me anything.’”
Then he meets a Scientology volunteer and what the volunteer tells Luce seems to make sense.
“How do you know all these things?” Luce asked her, and the volunteer introduced her to Tools for Life—a series of 19 free online courses.
“When I took the course, I became a different person,” says Luce. “I know that I’ve changed because when people attack me, I’m like, ‘Wait. I’m not Luce anymore.’ And then they would come up to me and say, ‘Look, what happened to you? Why have you changed so much?’ And then I gave away the 19 Tools.”
Working in coordination with the African Minister for Volunteer Scientology headquarters at Castle Kyalami in Johannesburg, Luce gives seminars to community leaders to empower them so they know what to do.
A community activist who took part in the training said that the Luce’s Tools for Life seminar “equips those in my community so we can create a positive ripple effect. The goal is to break the chain of poverty.”
“Sometimes kids act out, but you don’t know why they are acting out,” said the head of an early childhood development center who attended Luce’s seminar. “Their parents maybe used drugs or they used alcohol…. The tool shows us how to deal with these people.”
“It’s been a blessing for me to be a part of this,” said an assistant intern at the same center.
“For me, change is possible,” said an ward committee member who completed 19 courses. “It depends on what I use [from these courses].”
Luce said, “These Tools for Life have completely changed my life because now I can make the changes I want to see around me without waiting for anyone. I can see it making a difference in my life. And I’m sure it will make a difference everyone life.”
Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard developed Tools for Life for the training of Volunteer Ministers of Scientology, which is a socio-religious service sponsored by the Church of Scientology International.
Mr. Hubbard described the Minister for Volunteers as “a person who helps others voluntarily by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values into the lives of others.” Their belief: “A Minister for Volunteers does not turn a blind eye to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. Instead, he was trained to deal with these things and help others achieve relief from them as well as new personal strengths.”
Their motto is, regardless of the circumstances, “Something Can do about it.”
Castle Kyalami serves as a home for community and a hub for all who share the goal of improving the lives of individuals and strengthening communities across regions, nations and all of Africa. Mr. David Miscavige, ecclesiastical leader of the Scientology religion, dedicated Kyalami Castle on New Year’s Day 2019, reaffirming Mr. Hubbard’s vision that “out of South Africa will emerge the next great civilization on the planet.”
