Call to Action: Leopold’s Preserve is looking for volunteers

Greetings, Prince William – Attention Plant Lovers and Gardeners! Leopold’s Preserve, 16290 Thoroughfare Road at Broad Run, offers a range of family-friendly training for volunteers to become certified in the removal of invasive vines at their facility.

Once certified, volunteers can come to Preserve at any time, on their own schedule, and independently work to remove invasive vines. Training is needed to learn more about invasive vine identification and removal techniques.

Training for 2023 will be offered on the following dates, 1:30pm-3:30pm: March 11, April 22, August 12, and October 14. It’s family friendly, and you’ll enjoy being outdoors in this beautiful facility and the helpful staff while you clear away vines that can choke trees and plants!

Prince William Volunteers are in dire need of Spanish speaking volunteers who can be called on to translate for Alternative Community Services clients who wish to enroll in our program but speak little or no English. Volunteers will participate in conference calls between staff and clients to translate questions and responses during the initial intake interview.

Volunteers will be pre-scheduled for certain shifts and must be available by phone during these times. Volunteers must be proficient in English and Spanish and able to speak clearly. They must also ensure that the information they translate is accurate and retains the same style and meaning as the original. Conference calls can be made once a week, or you can be on standby. If you love animals and running, we have a great opportunity! The wonderful people at Advocates for Abused and Abandoned Pets are looking for an experienced volunteer aged 18+ to help coordinate, manage and execute a walk/run fundraiser. The goal is to host a 5K race at Prince William during early fall. It’s too early to start planning, and you’ll have a great time promoting healthy events that will help homeless and abused animals! You can help our senior citizens! The Prince William Area Agency on Aging is seeking Home Delivery Drivers aged 18+ to deliver lunch meals to seniors staying in homes Monday-Friday, 10am-12am. The route takes about 1.5 hours to complete; the schedule is flexible. The program operates from two senior centers in Manassas and Woodbridge. Volunteers must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and proof of insurance. Are you people? The staff at Capital Caring Health are looking for virtual volunteers to help recruit volunteers for their various programs. This virtual opportunity is around 10 hours a month and involves social media, marketing and outreach support. The program supports children up to five years after arrival and helps displaced students in targeted areas to succeed in school.
